Live Wedding Painting

Live wedding painting? Is it for you?

Have you considered having a live wedding painting of your big day? Many of our couples have hired a live painter to document their day, and we are always awed by the beautiful scenes they recreate. There are a huge range of styles and mediums to check out. From Impressionist to abstract, acrylic and oil artists (like the painting below) to watercolor and pen and ink artists. Side note: oil takes an incredibly long time to dry, so it’s not always suited to live event painting, but artists will offer it if the painting is being delivered at a later date. Another tip, as with any vendor who can only service one event per day, there really aren’t that many live wedding painters out there, so reach out to them to check availability as soon as you’ve decided you’d like to have one join you for your wedding day.

I think Southern Bride Magazine said it really well, “Live-wedding painting at your ceremony or reception is an inventive and entertaining way to commemorate your wedding day. These artists use their talents to revive the past, a time before photography in which all celebrations were commemorated with portraits. By commissioning a live wedding portrait, you can give yourself a wedding gift you’ll treasure forever, engage your guests, and support a small business—all on the very day of your ceremony.”

Our friend Beth.Bee.Art recently offered a Valentines Day special to create a wedding painting from a photo. This is what she created for Rob and I from our wedding at the New House Hotel Cardiff a (cough) few years ago. I’m in love. Thank you Bethany!

So, seriously… Even if the cost of an artist isn’t in the budget for your wedding day, consider having a painting recreated from one of our photos for your first anniversary (or heck, even your 20th). I’m so glad I have this treasure and can’t wait to hang it in our home.
