Snow-Dusted Elegance: An Autumn Mountain Top Resort Wedding in Vermont

Autumn Mountain Top Resort Wedding

An Autumn Mountain Top Resort Wedding in Chittenden, Vermont

While late November in Vermont is often defined by the quiet transition from “stick season” to winter, Balyn and Kevin’s wedding day on November 29, 2024, arrived with an unexpected and beautiful gift: a significant blanket of fresh snow. This early winter arrival transformed the Chittenden landscape, providing a crisp, white canvas for a day that perfectly balanced elegant tradition with the couple’s playful “wintery Christmas” vision.

Morning Preparations at The Jewel

The morning events centered around The Jewel, a stunning, expansive home on the Mountain Top Resort property. Unlike a standard cabin, this light-filled residence offered a sophisticated backdrop for Balyn as she prepared with her bridesmaids – Beth, Jordyn, Maggie, Peyton, and her Maid of Honor, Miranda Carter. After the team from Blush perfected their hair and makeup, Balyn stepped into her lace Beccar gown, ready for one of the most anticipated moments of the day.

Reflections of Winter: The First Look

For their first look, Balyn and Kevin chose the privacy of The Jewel’s deep front porch. The architecture of the home played a starring role with the massive windows behind the couple perfectly reflecting the snow-covered trees, creating a layered, wintery effect that captured the stillness of the moment.

Kevin, in his classic black suit, and Balyn, in her white lace and fur stole, created a stunning silhouette against the wood tones of the home. It was also the first appearance of their custom Converse sneakers, which featured embroidery of their wedding date and last name, plus “Just Married” printed on the soles—a detail that would see a lot more action once they finally stepped into the snow later in the day.

A Terrace Ceremony and Cider Donut Traditions

The ceremony was held on the terrace of the Inn, overlooking the dramatic, snow-covered peaks of the Green Mountains. To honor their large, supportive family, all five sets of “parental units” processed down the aisle before the bridal party. Officiated by one of Kevin’s Moms, Donna Johns-Thomas, the ceremony was a deeply personal affair that included a poignant memorial for Balyn’s sister, Sydney. As the new Mr. and Mrs. Muffley made their way back up the aisle, they stopped for a signature dip and kiss against the ridgeline.

Choreographed Dances and Autumn Flavors

The celebration moved to the Event Barn, where the reception space was warmed by the rich emerald green and Christmas red palette curated by Meadow’s Edge. In a departure from the traditional wedding cake, the couple opted for a mountain of apple cider donuts from Sweet Birch.

The highlight of the reception was a fully choreographed first dance to Andrew Ripp’s “Never in a Million Years.” It was clear that the “planner” in Balyn and the “goofball” in Kevin (his words!) had spent plenty of time practicing. Heartfelt toasts from Miranda Carter and Best Man Isaac Davis rounded out a night that proved late November in Vermont is truly unpredictable and entirely beautiful.
