A Classic Winter Equinox Resort Wedding: Hannah & Liam’s Black-Tie Celebration
There is a specific kind of magic that happens at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, Vermont during the winter. Even without a blanket of snow, the historic brick architecture and the rugged silhouette of the Taconic Mountains provide a backdrop which feels incredibly sophisticated.
Hannah and Liam’s February wedding was the perfect example of how to do “Mountain-Side Formal” right. With a vision rooted in romance and elegance, they turned the Equinox into a warm winter retreat that felt both grand and deeply personal.
From Mass General to Manchester: A Personal Celebration
Hannah and Liam’s story is rooted in care and connection; they actually met while working as nurses at Mass General. That shared background made the day feel even more intimate, especially with their close friend and fellow nurse, Monica, serving as their officiant.
From the start, it was clear that family history was the heartbeat of this day. Liam carried the memory of his mother with him, wearing her pin and his grandfather’s ring. His custom wedding band was even crafted from gold melted down from his mother’s and grandmother’s jewelry—a detail that grounded the high-end black-tie aesthetic in something truly meaningful.
Hannah was such a joy to work with, and her kind words about our team really hit home for us:
“Experts of their crafts and experts in the wedding process. The whole team with Sixpence made us feel like family from our first interaction… We couldn’t be happier with the creative and timeless photos Sixpence delivered to us in the end.”
Bringing the Vermont Forest Indoors: The Ceremony
Since the February landscape was crisp and overcast rather than snowy, Hannah and Liam leaned into the lush greenery of their color palette. Instead of a traditional arbor, they worked with Rena’s Fine Flowers to create a stunning altar of Christmas pine trees in the Colonnade Ballroom.
It was a brilliant design choice—it brought the essence of a Winter Equinox Resort Wedding indoors, creating a fragrant, cozy environment for their guests to witness their custom vows, officiated by their close friend, Monica.
Reception in the Colonnade Ballroom: Dinner and Dancing
The transition from ceremony to reception was seamless. The black-tie attire of the guests looked spectacular against the warm, historic wood and white linens of the Equinox.
Highlights of the evening included:
- A Meaningful Tribute: In a beautiful nod to his mother, Liam shared a special “Mother/Son” dance with his sister, Meredith.
- The First Dance: A soulful moment to On My Way To You by Cody Johnson.
- The Vibe Shift: After the heartfelt toasts by Ken, Craig, Jessica and Camille, Hannah made a quick outfit change, signaling it was time for DJ Dave Solimine to turn the elegant dinner into a high-energy dance party.
Hannah and Liam, thank you for letting the Sixpence team be part of your family for the day ❤️ Your celebration was the perfect start to our 2024 season!
